Milan’s story would be very different from what we know, if the city and its province were not so tied to that tangle of waters, canals, rivers, streams and irrigation ditches that unfold like a Spider Web between the middle of the city and the countryside around. After the rationalization of canals and ditches, even today, in the province of Milan are flowing well 370 km of waterways. The departure is from piazza XXIV maggio, newly renovated space overlooking the dock. ….. CYCLE BEGINS
Cycling for another 3 km, approx. 7 before departure, you reach behind Milanofiori andits shopping malls. Here begins the path dedicated to bicycles, exclusively. Before you go under the ring road bridge, in a small area, you can see otters or wild rabbits consuming their daily meal.The bridge seems to be the virtual border between Milan and its countryside, superatolo, we have the feeling that the world citizen is closed behind us. Soon we arrive at Rozzano, where we can admire a rich system of sluices and a crystalline cascade. If there is a breath of wind, the steam raised by water will give us a pleasant sensation of freshness. Next to the closed, a little distant from the Statale dei Giovi and the Naviglio Pavese, there is an old abandoned building, actually a piece of industrial archaeology, one of the most important.
It is a testament to the milanese industry of the early twentieth century, the settlement, now abandoned for 50 years, the Société Anonyme Filatures De Chappe, a French national company, specialized in the production of silk, which in 1907 in Rozzano had inaugurated the only Italian branch. The machines were powered by a small hydroelectric power station that exploited the closed the Canal and its waterfall. To work in the thriving in the 1920s were more than 800 people.
MILLS, ORCHARDS AND FIELDS
After the spinning mill, within 2 or 3 km cross Moirago and then we touch Zibido without crossing the country which actually do not even notice the sign. As we ride along the cycle path that runs straight on side of the Canal, we note that the houses will be increasingly rare, replaced by orchards and fields. Along the shore, fishermen patients are waiting to see the barrel curl and the fish biting.
